Dr. Mary Brushe

Biography

Mary Brushe is a Senior Research Officer at the Telethon Kids Institute, with a focus on understanding health and development education for young children. Her research interests include screen time during early childhood and its implications for families, promoting healthy ways to engage with technology. Mary's PhD investigated the impacts of early home language environments on early development, particularly in relation to socioeconomic inequalities. She collaborates on various projects targeting children's and adolescents' mental health and wellbeing, addressing issues such as food insecurity and the evaluation of government early years programs. Her expertise encompasses social epidemiology, longitudinal data analysis, participant recruitment, data collection, and the co-design of interventions. She actively advocates for public health and engages with policymakers to ensure research informs community practices. Mary also serves as the Vice President of the Public Health Association in South Australia and is involved with the 0-3 Early Years Taskforce, demonstrating her commitment to improving early years health systems. Her work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in relation to education and public health.
