Dr. Mary Steinhardt

Biography

Mary Steinhardt is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the College of Education's Department of Kinesiology and Health Education and serves as the University's research integrity officer. She previously held positions as faculty ombuds and Senior Provost Teaching Fellow. Her research focuses on the behavioral and biological pathways of resilience and the impacts of resources on health outcomes, particularly in type 2 diabetes among African Americans. Notable awards include the Civitatis Award for outstanding faculty citizenship and recognition as a member of the Academy Distinguished Teachers. Steinhardt's work emphasizes how individuals can successfully adapt to stress and build health resilience. She has published extensively on topics related to diabetes self-management and resilience, contributing to various prestigious journals and participating in significant research initiatives. Currently, she holds a National Institutes of Health R01 award examining resilience-based diabetes self-management education to improve health outcomes for African American individuals. Steinhardt's educational background includes an M.A. in Professional Counseling from Texas State University, an Ed.D. in Education Curriculum Instruction from the University of Houston, and an M.S. in Health Education from Lamar University.
