Dr. Maryam Alavi

Biography

Maryam Alavi is a professor of Management who holds the Elizabeth T. Thomas M. Holder Chair at the Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She served as the dean of the College from 2014 to 2023. A thought leader and researcher in digital innovation and transformation, she has extensive experience in organizational capability-building and leadership talent development in the digital age. Dr. Alavi's prolific academic contributions include numerous published papers and service on editorial boards of prestigious business technology journals. Her body of work has received numerous citations, placing her among the top 2% of the world’s most-cited researchers according to the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford University. Dr. Alavi is a sought-after speaker at national and international forums and conferences, having taught executive programs at some of the world’s most prestigious business schools. Her executive education has included topics on innovation and digital strategies for organizations such as Bank of America, Coca-Cola Company, Invesco, KIA Motors, and others. For her professional achievements, Dr. Alavi has received the Association for Information Systems Fellows Award, the Marvin Bower Faculty Fellowship from Harvard Business School, and was recognized as a Woman of the Year by Women in Technology Georgia. Additionally, she has served on several advisory boards and has been appointed twice as a Governor for the State of Georgia on the Georgia Technology Authority Board.
