Dr. Mashail Haydar Ali

Biography

After obtaining a first-class BEd and MA in Linguistics from the University of Mosul in Iraq, Dr. Ali moved to the UK to study for a PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of London. Upon completing her PhD, she began teaching applied translation studies and Arabic language and culture, as well as language policy and politics in the Arab world, at various Russell Group universities. Currently, she serves as a Departmental Lecturer and the Director of Studies for Languages and Cultural Studies at Oxford Lifelong Learning, University of Oxford. In this role, Dr. Ali is responsible for the academic oversight and quality assurance of the diverse programs offered at the university's Department of Continuing Education, which includes modern languages, classics, linguistics, language pedagogy, and cultural studies. Additionally, she organizes weekend and day events centered on languages and cultural studies. Her research interests encompass language policy and planning in the Middle East, Arabic varieties, language reform, and applied translation studies.
