Dr. Matilda Hofman

Biography

Matilda Hofman is a dedicated lecturer in Music at the University of California, Davis. With an extensive conducting background, Matilda has been recognized for her exceptional conducting style that has been described as 'taut and finely controlled'. She serves as Music Director for the Diablo Symphony Orchestra and has held the position of conductor-in-residence at the Empyrean Ensemble at UC Davis. She has a prolific guest conducting career, with engagements across California including Festival Opera, the San Francisco Ballet, and as a cover conductor for the San Francisco Symphony. Matilda has performed internationally at prestigious events such as the Salzburg Festival and the Holland Festival, working with renowned ensembles and orchestras. She is also actively involved in music education, developing programs aimed at underrepresented composers through the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. Matilda's commitment to fostering new musical voices and diversity in the arts is evident in her various roles and initiatives, including directing the UC Davis Early Music Ensemble and performing with the Contemporary Music Ensemble at Oberlin Conservatory. She holds degrees from Cambridge University, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Eastman School of Music, and has been mentored by prominent figures in the field of conducting.
