Biography

Matthew Ronfeldt is a Professor at the University of Michigan Marsal Family School of Education and a Faculty Associate at the Survey Research Center within the Institute for Social Research. His research focuses on understanding and improving teaching quality, particularly in schools and districts serving minoritized and marginalized students. He examines various aspects of teacher preparation, induction, professional development (including mentoring), and the recruitment and retention of teachers of color. Ronfeldt employs a range of mixed methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative approaches, experimental and causal inference studies, case studies, and regression analyses. His recent projects include efforts to increase the racial diversity of the teaching workforce in Tennessee, and the development of programs aimed at promoting inclusive mathematics instruction for marginalized learners. Additionally, he has extensive experience in using large-scale quantitative methodologies to enhance teacher education. Ronfeldt previously served as a middle school mathematics and science teacher and continues to advocate for educational equity throughout his work. He obtained his PhD in Teacher Education from Stanford University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on large-scale quantitative research in education policy at Stanford's Institute for Research on Educational Policy and Practice.
