Biography

Matthew Sutherland is a Lecturer in Teacher Education at the University of Glasgow's School of Education. With a strong interest in addressing social inequalities in education, he focuses on critical studies of the educational landscape in Scotland. His ESRC funded PhD examines the impact of narrowing secondary school curricula on subject choices, qualifications, and the overall attainment of young people. Before becoming a lecturer, Matthew gained experience as a Physical Education teacher in both primary and secondary schools. His dedication to enhancing educational outcomes is reflected in his research interests, which include quantitative data analysis, curriculum choices, social justice, social stratification, educational inequalities, health and wellbeing, and outdoor learning.
