Dr. Matthew Treviño

Biography

Matthew Treviño is an Assistant Professor of Voice at the Mead Witter School of Music, University of Wisconsin–Madison. His teaching philosophy focuses on fostering healthy vocal technique and authentic artistry, ensuring that students thrive both personally and professionally. With a deep commitment to student growth, Treviño cultivates a supportive yet challenging studio environment that encourages students to take ownership of their instruments, develop artistic independence, and forge their own unique paths in the ever-evolving world of musical arts. His research explores the intersection of historical vocal pedagogy and contemporary vocal music, as well as innovations in new music that engage and enrich both artists and audiences. Treviño previously held the position of Professor of Voice and Area Chair at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is a passionate advocate of modern opera and has enjoyed a successful performance career, participating in notable productions with esteemed companies across North America. Treviño's career highlights include roles in various operas and major concert works. He graduated from Baylor University and received the Thomas Stewart Award for Vocal Excellence. Treviño is also a member of the San Francisco Opera's Merola Opera Program and a recipient of multiple competition awards. He resides in Verona, WI with his wife Catherine, their son Luca, and their golden retriever Daisy.
