Biography

Matthijs Leendertse is a senior researcher and advisor at TNO Information Communication Technology, a Dutch research and development organization, since February 2006. His work focuses on developing strategic visions for media and ICT education in the private and public sectors. Leendertse combines economics, management studies, communication science, and policy studies in his multidisciplinary research. He has collaborated with various Dutch and international clients, including the European Commission, the Dutch Education Council, France Telecom, and War Child, as well as the Dutch public broadcasting organization NPO. His research topics include business modeling for digital media products, the impact of digitization on media organizations, and media policy in the context of rapid changes in the media industry, particularly regarding ICT-enabled learning. He has been involved in research projects looking ahead to future learning scenarios for 2025, sponsored by the European Commission, and investigating revenue generation for content owners through hyper-differentiated media products. Leendertse also worked as a lecturer in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 2006, teaching about trends in the media industry and media policy. He previously served as a lecturer and research associate at the University of Amsterdam's Department of Communication Studies and held the position of head of research at Van Dusseldorp & Partners, a consultancy focused on new media developments. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and is currently completing his Ph.D. dissertation on the effects of policy measures on the production of digital educational resources.
