Biography

Matti Kaulio is a professor of industrial economics focusing on leadership and organization at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). His research interests center on three main areas: leadership in technology-intensive industries, organizational responses to technological change, and organizational learning and resilience. Utilizing qualitative and interactive research methods such as case studies, critical incident technique, and Design Science Research, he addresses real-world challenges faced by leaders, teams, and organizations, generating insights into organizational change, psychological contracts, competence renewal, and business modeling. He is particularly interested in developing practical, adaptive strategies to help organizations navigate changing environments. Matti has published two books, with his research appearing in journals including Creativity Innovation Management, European Management Review, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, International Journal of Project Management, Journal of Management & Organization, Project Management Journal, and R&D Management. He has extensive experience leading industrial collaborative projects and supervising doctoral candidates. He holds a Master's degree in Engineering Physics and a Ph.D. in Technology Management and Economics, both from Chalmers University of Technology. From 2014 to 2015, he was a visiting professor at Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI). Matti has substantial practical leadership experience, having served as department head at the Department of Industrial Economics and Management from 2016 to 2019, where he developed the department's research focus, organization, and internationalization.
