Dr. Maureen Scheidnes

Biography

Maureen Scheidnes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research focuses on bilingual language development in children and adults, particularly on the acquisition of morphosyntax in French and English learners. She explores the impact of the quantity and quality of language exposure on the language performance of bilingual children. In addition to her research interests, Maureen holds a joint appointment in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. She teaches classes in linguistics and French language courses at both intermediate and advanced levels. Her teaching includes French Phonetics and courses on language acquisition. Maureen obtained her Bachelor's degree from Beloit College and both her Master's and Ph.D. from Université François-Rabelais de Tours. She has published various studies in her field and continues to contribute to the understanding of bilingualism and language development.
