Dr. Max Coltheart

Biography

Max Coltheart is an Australian cognitive scientist renowned for his contributions to cognitive neuropsychology, computational psychology, and the study of reading. Born in Frankston, near Melbourne, he graduated from Bega High School in 1957 before obtaining his degrees in psychology and philosophy from the University of Sydney. He completed a PhD and held lectureships in psychology at various institutions, including Monash University and the University of Waterloo. In 1987, he joined Macquarie University as a Professor of Psychology and served as the Director of the Macquarie Centre for Cognitive Science from 2000 to 2008. Alongside his academic roles, Coltheart has received numerous accolades, including a Doctor of Science from Macquarie University in 2001 and an honorary LLD in 2010. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2010 for his services to children with learning difficulties. As a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the British Academy, his research continues to focus on cognitive neuropsychiatry, with particular emphasis on delusional beliefs.
