Biography

Maya Henry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at The University of Texas at Austin and serves in the Department of Neurology at Dell Medical School. She directs the Aphasia Research and Treatment Lab, focusing on clinical research regarding the nature and treatment of aphasia resulting from stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Henry received her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin, her Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Communication Sciences & Disorders from the University of Arizona. She completed a National Institutes of Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California’s Memory Aging Center, specializing in research on atypical dementias, including frontotemporal dementia and early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Since joining the faculty in 2014, she has maintained a joint appointment in the Department of Neurology since 2019. Her NIH-funded research investigates the cognitive and neural bases of spoken and written language rehabilitation related to impairments from primary progressive aphasia, contributing to several journals and national and international conferences.
