Dr. Megan Galbally

Biography

Megan Galbally holds a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery and a Master of Psychological Medicine, both from Monash University, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne. She is a Fellow of the Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and serves as the National Chair of the Section of Perinatal Infant Psychiatry at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). Galbally has extensive experience in women's mental health and has led various longitudinal studies, focusing on the intricate relationship between maternal mental health and child developmental outcomes. Among her notable research initiatives is the Mercy Pregnancy Emotional Wellbeing Study (MPEWS), which examines psychiatric factors during pregnancy and their implications for mothers and children. She has served in several influential roles including Chair of the Gender Equity Working Group at RANZCP and has been integral to the Australasian Marce Society, contributing to various committees. Her research interests encompass early women's mental health, parenting practices, and the impacts of antidepressant exposure during pregnancy. Galbally's work has garnered national and international attention, and she has been invited to present and publish in various esteemed journals. Her research is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically those addressing health and quality education.
