Professor Dr. Megan Lukaniec

Biography

Megan Lukaniec is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Victoria. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MA in Linguistics Anthropology from Université Laval. Her academic work primarily focuses on Indigenous language reclamation and revitalization, involving language documentation, lexicography, language contact, and language change. Megan has been actively working within communities, particularly with the Huron-Wendat Nation, to reclaim the Wendat language after a 150-year dormancy, utilizing archival documentation to support this effort. She has also contributed to various scholarly publications on topics related to Indigenous languages and has taught courses exploring these areas.
