Dr. Melanie Porter

Biography

Melanie Porter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Macquarie University, Sydney. With a Master's and PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology, she possesses over 20 years of clinical experience assessing and treating children, adults, and families through evidence-based practices in various sectors. Her research focuses on typical and atypical child development, cognitive and behavioral mental health disorders throughout the lifespan, neuropsychological assessment and intervention, as well as parent/child interactions and the neuropsychological impact of stress, trauma, and maltreatment. Melanie collaborates nationally and internationally on research investigating links between genetic and cognitive brain abnormalities in conditions such as Williams syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disorders. She has published over 85 peer-reviewed journal articles and serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals. Additionally, she coordinates neuropsychology programs and supervises clinical training for psychologists. Her areas of expertise include child development, developmental disabilities, behavioral disorders, and trauma-informed care. Outside academia, Melanie is the Director of ADHD Australia and has held numerous editorial and advisory roles.
