Dr. Menno Pradhan

Biography

Menno Pradhan is a Full Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Amsterdam Centre for World Food Studies. He obtained his PhD from Tilburg University and has extensive experience in the field of international development, with a particular focus on project program evaluation. His professional journey includes significant roles such as a researcher at the World Bank in Indonesia and Washington, and a faculty member at Cornell University. Pradhan has collaborated with the Tinbergen Institute as a co-academic director and is actively involved in various research areas including basic education, early childhood development, community empowerment, and health. His work primarily utilizes empirical methods based on household surveys, designed explicitly for impact evaluations. In terms of teaching, he instructs courses in International Trade and Development Economics at the Bachelor's level and Micro Economics at the Master's level, contributing to the academic community's understanding of developmental economics. Pradhan has actively participated in numerous projects, including evaluating public health spending and employment markets in Indonesia and Kenya. His contributions have been acknowledged through various grants and datasets aimed at uncovering insights into health insurance and education impacts in developing countries.
