Dr. Mica Pollock

Biography

Mica Pollock is a professor in the Education Studies department at the University of California, San Diego. Her research explores the critical role educators play in fostering antiracism, opportunity, and equality through language in diverse educational settings. Pollock's decade-long work focuses on creating networks of conversation among partners in education to leverage university resources for local K-20 learning opportunities, benefiting entire regions. Since arriving at UC San Diego in 2011, she has initiated equity dialogues and built connections among K-12 educators, students, and families in the San Diego area, co-creating opportunities to enhance learning for all involved. Pollock is a co-founder of the CREATE STEM Success Initiative, which unites university staff and the education community to advance K-20 STEM education in the region. Additionally, she has launched initiatives such as #schooltalking, a Facebook-based platform for educators to share dialogue and resources, and #USvsHate, a project directed at combating hate messaging among youth. Pollock has previously taught at the high school level in California and spent a decade as a professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she engaged in civil rights work.
