Dr. Michael Bastedo

Biography

Michael Bastedo is the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs at the University of Michigan's Marsal Family School of Education, where he holds the Marvin W. Peterson Collegiate Professorship. His work is primarily focused on college admissions practices and educational policy research. Bastedo is the founding director of the Michigan Admissions Collaboratory, a center aimed at enhancing research and policy in college admissions both nationally and internationally. His empirical research led to the development of the Landscape, a tool utilized by over 270 admissions offices to inform decision-making, significantly impacting the admission of low-income and disadvantaged students. He has received several accolades, including the 2013 Early Career Award from the American Educational Research Association, and was named a fellow in 2021, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the field. His scholarship has also been recognized by the National Academy of Education. Bastedo has served as a Fulbright Scholar in the Netherlands and held fellowship positions at the Ford Foundation and the Bellagio Center in Italy, contributing to various educational policy initiatives across the globe.
