Mike Brett joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington as an Assistant Professor in December 1997. Prior to his appointment at UW, he worked as a Research Associate at the University of California, Davis, from 1991 to 1997. He earned his PhD in Limnology from Uppsala University, Sweden, in 1990. His research focuses on biological limnology with a particular interest in nutrient discharges and their role in eutrophication of lakes, streams, and estuaries. Mike's studies involve the production and bioaccumulation of omega-3 fatty acids in aquatic food webs, as well as the coupling of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. He teaches courses such as Applied Limnology (CEE462), Lake Watershed Management (CEE547), and Environmental Engineering (CEE357).
