Biography

Michael Karas completed his PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Western Ontario in 2019. He has worked as an English language teacher in South Korea, China, and Canada, and has served as a teacher educator at the University of Western Ontario and Renison University College at the University of Waterloo. Michael is a certified English language teacher (OCELT) and has instructed TESL Ontario courses in theory and methodology. His research interests include language teacher self-efficacy, language teacher education, reflective practice, language teacher proficiency, and learner silence and reticence. His work has been published in several refereed journals and he has contributed to various book chapters on language teaching and teacher development. Michael’s teaching at Brock involves courses in language acquisition, research practicum, and sociolinguistics, among others. He has been active in professional service, including roles such as Book Review Editor for the TESL Canada Journal and Academic Coordinator for TESL Ontario.
