Biography

Michael Kölling is a Professor in the Department of Informatics at King’s College London. He has served as the Vice Dean for Education in the Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Engineering Sciences from 2017 to 2023. Michael's research focuses on programming languages, software tools, and computing education. He has published numerous papers covering topics in object-oriented programming and education, and he is a co-author of Java programming textbooks. As the lead developer of BlueJ and Greenfoot, he has significantly contributed to educational programming environments. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Distinguished Member of the ACM, and a UK National Teaching Fellow. In 2013, he received the ACM SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contributions to Computer Science Education.
