Dr. Michael Webber

Biography

Michael E. Webber holds the John J. McKetta Centennial Energy Chair at the University of Texas at Austin and serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Energy Impact Partners, a $3 billion cleantech venture fund. He was previously the Chief Science Technology Officer at ENGIE and has expertise in research, education, convergence engineering, policy, and commercialization topics related to innovation and energy. Webber authored the book 'Power Trip: The Story of Energy,' published in 2019 by Basic Books, and created a companion series that aired on PBS and other platforms, reaching millions of viewers. He has made significant contributions to the field of energy policy, renewable energy, and smart grid technologies, has written over 500 publications, and holds six patents. A successful entrepreneur, he founded DISCO Learning Media, an educational technology startup. Webber earned his B.A. in Plan II Liberal Arts and B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
