Dr. Michele Schweisfurth

Biography

Michele Schweisfurth is a Professor of Comparative International Education at the University of Glasgow. She joined the institution in January 2013, having previously held positions at the University of Birmingham. Originally from Canada, she has a diverse international background as a researcher, educator, and advisor. Schweisfurth holds a PhD in Education from the University of Warwick, an MSc in Comparative International Education from the University of Oxford, and a BEd and BA from the University of Western Ontario. Her research interests include the tensions between global educational frameworks, such as children's rights and best practices in teaching, and local cultural imperatives. Her recent work focuses on learner-centered pedagogy in a comparative international context, democratic education and citizenship, and the implications of cross-border academic experiences on the political development of students. Schweisfurth has also been actively involved in various educational research grants and has contributed to several high-profile publications and educational initiatives.
