Dr. Michelle Cheramy

Biography

Flutist Michelle Cheramy is recognized for her beautiful sound and fluidity in playing, showcasing her interpretive skills across a repertoire spanning the 18th to 21st centuries. As a member of the National Flute Association and a full-time university educator, Cheramy serves as an Associate Professor of Music at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras across Canada, the United States, and Russia and has been prominently featured on national broadcasts such as CBC Radio. Cheramy's teaching is complemented by her extensive experience as a performer and her commitment to the flute culture in North America, having chaired competitions and contributed to editorial activities. A graduate of the University of British Columbia (B.Mus), Indiana University (M.M.), and Rice University (D.M.A.), she has also participated in renowned summer festivals and has been mentored by notable flutists. Cheramy continues to guide a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students while focusing her performance work mainly on solo and chamber music projects, having previously held orchestral positions.
