Michelle Foot is a Senior Lecturer in the History of Art at the Edinburgh College of Art, specializing in Nineteenth Century Art, particularly British and European art from the late nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. Her research interests encompass Spiritualism, Occulture, Scottish art, and the Celtic Revival. Michelle joined the History of Art department in August 2016 and is the Programme Director for the Undergraduate History of Art program. She is set to publish a forthcoming book titled 'Modern Spiritualism and Scottish Art: Scots, Spirits, and Séances, 1860-1940' with Bloomsbury Academic in autumn 2023. Her current research project investigates the use of occultism in the Celtic Revival of the late nineteenth century, leading to a resulting monograph. Throughout her career, she has presented her research at national and international conferences and has been invited to give public lectures on various occasions. Michelle was awarded her PhD from the University of Aberdeen in 2016 and holds fellowships with the Higher Education Academy and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. She is also associated with the Scottish Centre for Victorian and Neo-Victorian Studies and is a member of the Association of Art History and the Scottish Society of Art History.
