Biography

Michelle Scott, Anaatsa'poopaki (Pretty Plume Woman), is an Assistant Professor (Teaching) at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Nursing and serves as Associate Dean for Indigenous Education. With a remarkable history in educational leadership, Michelle previously held the position of Director of Indigenous Initiatives at St. Mary’s University in Calgary. She is proudly of L’nu (Mi’kmaw) and Irish/English descent, with her ancestral roots in Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) and has spent the last 23 years in Moh’kins’tsis (Calgary). Michelle's academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Toronto, a Master of Education in Foundational Learning from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Doctor of Education from the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. Her research emphasizes opening spaces within western academia to amplify Indigenous voices and ways of knowing. She is dedicated to facilitating learning that bridges community and education, fostering relationships, and addressing the historical and ongoing legacies of colonization in Canada. Through her work, Michelle aims to create pathways for reconciliation and a collaborative future with Indigenous peoples.
