Mike Murphy is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream at Carleton University’s School of Linguistics and Language Studies. He joined Carleton’s English as a Second Language Academic (ESLA) program in 2017, where he teaches English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English literature. Prior to this, he taught English at the University of British Columbia and in Quebec’s CEGEP system. His current research interests focus on language pedagogy, particularly the adaptation of EAP methodologies in the context of generative AI. He has been involved in modeling learner vocabulary knowledge using automatic text profilers to match students with appropriate reading texts. Additionally, Murphy works as a consultant for Carleton’s Kwän Dék’án’ project with the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Nation in Mayo, Yukon, focusing on Indigenous language revitalization pedagogy.
