Milda R. Saunders, MD MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. Her clinical interests are focused on Medical Ethics, and she has completed a combined internal medicine-pediatrics residency as well as a research fellowship in hospital medicine and a clinical medical ethics fellowship at the MacLean Center for medical education (MERITS). In addition to her clinical work in General Internal Medicine (GIM), Dr. Saunders serves as a Research Subject Advocate at the Institute of Translational Medicine and as a Living Donor Advocate Physician, collaborating with potential living donors to ensure appropriate medical and psychosocial evaluations, and comprehensive understanding of the risks associated with living donation. Her research is primarily aimed at reducing disparities and improving the quality of care for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). Currently, she is undertaking NIH-funded initiatives to develop and test educational modules intended for hospitalized patients with advanced CKD, enhancing their knowledge and preparation for renal replacement therapy. Dr. Saunders is also an Assistant Dean for Multicultural Affairs at the Pritzker School of Medicine.
