Dr. Miranda Wong

Biography

Miranda Wong is a sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia’s School of Music, specializing in piano and chamber music. She is a recognized solo recitalist and chamber musician with a career that spans Canada, the United States, and England, having performed on various broadcasts such as CBC Radio. With over ten years of experience in a contemporary music ensemble, Aventa, she has appeared at notable venues and festivals across North America and Europe, including Roulette in Brooklyn and the Copenhagen Athelas Festival. Wong's performance focus includes collaborations and world premieres with works by eminent composers such as Peter Maxwell Davies and Michael Finnissy. She obtained her Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria, where she graduated at the top of her class. Further studies were supported by grants from the Canada Council, leading to a Piano Performance Certificate from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and a Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University. Wong aims to share her discoveries on the connections between music and life, ensuring her teaching remains an integral part of her professional activities.
