Professor Dr. Miray Philips

Biography

Miray Philips is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. She is also affiliated with the Department of Study of Religion at the University of Toronto and the Institute for Religion, Culture, and Societal Futures at the University of Waterloo. Additionally, she is a fellow at the Center for the Study of Religion & American Culture at Indiana University. Her research interests span across multiple domains, including Colonialism, Racialization, Indigeneity, and Political Sociology. Philips employs qualitative methods to examine significant topics such as Religion, Human Rights, Memory, Globalization, and Diaspora, particularly in relation to the Middle East and North Africa. By integrating a public sociology perspective, she aims to contribute to the discourse around culture and knowledge.
