Biography

Mirella Gomes da Silva is a lecturer in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at Northwestern University. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Memphis. Her research interests include foreign language acquisition, technology in language learning and teaching, bilingualism, and pronunciation. Throughout her 21 years of teaching experience, she has taught languages in various countries including Brazil, the USA, the UAE, and China. Mirella has a passion for language teaching and learning, as well as teacher training. Her doctoral research focused on the use of wikis in academic environments, analyzing students' and instructors' perceptions of these tools to improve writing skills. She currently teaches Portuguese 115 - Portuguese for Spanish Speakers, Portuguese 201 - Portuguese Reading and Speaking, and Portuguese 210 – Icons, Legends, and Myths of Brazil.
