Biography

Monique Somma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University. She is available for graduate advisement and teaches courses related to education and students with exceptionalities. Monique obtained her MEd and PhD from Brock University. Before joining Brock full-time in 2017, she taught special education and inclusive classes in Ontario's elementary schools for 15 years. Her research interests include Inclusive Education, focusing on the human rights of individuals with exceptionalities, and Pedagogical Change, exploring how teacher beliefs and practices can be transformed to better support students with exceptional needs. She is also interested in Differentiated Instruction and its role in creating inclusive classrooms, as well as Outdoor Education and nature-based education programs that impact student learning and well-being.
