Biography

Nagisa Fukui is an Associate Professor in Japanese Studies at the University of New South Wales. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has been recognized for her commitment to teaching excellence, receiving the Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2013 and the Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning Award in 2012. Since becoming UNSW's inaugural Education Focus academic in 2017, she has developed and taught a wide range of Japanese language courses. Professor Fukui supervises practicum students interested in teaching Japanese in tertiary institutions and actively engages in workshops and conferences to enhance language education. Her research interests encompass Japanese language education, language learning and teaching, as well as Japanese discourse analysis utilizing a systemic functional approach. Furthermore, she represents the Japanese Proficiency Test in Sydney and serves on various committees aimed at promoting Japanese language studies within Australia.
