Biography

Nancy Kendall is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on the impacts of national and international policies and funding streams aimed at improving the lives and wellbeing of children in marginalized communities. Her projects have investigated the intersections between education, political democratization, governance, and issues like sexual health and gender in education, with research carried out in Malawi, Mozambique, Colombia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Zimbabwe. Kendall has been recognized with a National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation postdoctoral fellowship and received the Lyle Spencer Foundation Award in 2019. With extensive support from various prestigious foundations, she has authored the book 'Sex Education Debates' and published numerous articles in respected journals. Additionally, she serves as the Director of the African Studies Program and is affiliated with the Department of Gender and Women's Studies at UW-Madison.
