Biography

Naomi Ehrich Leonard is the Edwin S. Wilsey Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University, where she also serves as the founding director of creativeX, an engineering-and-the-arts collective. She is associated faculty in the Applied and Computational Mathematics program, the Biophysics Graduate Program, and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. Leonard has been recognized as a MacArthur Fellow and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as a Fellow of ASME, IEEE, IFAC, and SIAM. Her research interests focus on dynamics, control, and learning in multi-agent systems, with applications in multi-robot teams, collective animal behavior, and networked systems technology. Leonard received her B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University in 1985 and her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1994. Her recent accolades include the 2023 IEEE Control Systems Award and the 2024 Richard E. Bellman Control Heritage Award.
