Biography

Natalie Lin Douglas is a New Zealand-born violinist, educator, and arts entrepreneur, currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Music at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the founder and artistic director of the Kinetic Ensemble, a flexible chamber orchestral group known for amplifying diverse and under-performed newly composed classical music. The ensemble has been recognized for its 'visually arresting' and 'brilliantly executed' performances, commissioning and premiering works from notable composers. Natalie is an accomplished chamber musician, having performed internationally, and a prizewinner of esteemed violin competitions. She has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras and has taught at prominent institutions. An active educator, she conducts masterclasses and has led numerous educational initiatives. Natalie completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rice University, where she focused on the string works of significant composers and authored a dissertation exploring Leonard Bernstein's Serenade. Her dedication to expanding musical horizons continues through her innovative projects and performances.
