Biography

Neil studied Psychology at the University of Liverpool from 1995 to 1998 and pursued a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching and a Ph.D. in Education at Liverpool John Moores University from 1998 to 2001. He worked for a year at the University of Bolton before taking a lectureship in psychology education at the University of Manchester in 2002. He became a senior lecturer in 2007 and was promoted to Professor of Psychology Education in 2010. Neil served as the Research Director for Education from 2013 to 2016 and was the Head of the Manchester Institute of Education from 2016 to 2020. He became the Associate Dean for Research for the Faculty of Humanities in 2021. His research interests center around social-emotional learning, mental health, and special educational needs, particularly focusing on autism spectrum conditions. He has secured significant external research funding and collaborates with various institutions and organizations to promote academic and practical advancements in these areas.
