Biography

Neil Aaron Thompson is an Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Entrepreneurship and Organization Studies. He earned his MSc in International Economics and Business from Utrecht University in 2009 and completed his PhD in 2013 with a dissertation titled 'Institutional Logics in Entrepreneurship – Struggling Legitimacy in the Emerging Bio-Energy Field.' His research interests include Entrepreneurship Practice, Organizational Creativity, New Venture Creation, Sustainable Development, Organization Theory, Institutional Theory, Organizational Change, New Industry Development, Economic Sociology, and Historical Methods. Thompson explores how entrepreneurs cope with anxiety within the entrepreneurial process and investigates the evolution of global entrepreneurial ecosystems. He also employs practice theory to understand entrepreneurial phenomena and conducts historical studies on the institutional work within the music industry. As a faculty member, Thompson coordinates various master’s programmes and supervises master’s theses related to his research interests. He actively participates in developing new scholarship areas and engages in research projects that reflect his commitment to advancing knowledge in entrepreneurship.
