Prof Englyst graduated BSc (Hons) PhD from the University of Aberdeen before moving to Cambridge to complete her first postdoctoral research position. She joined the University of Southampton in 1999, awarded the University Career Track Fellowship, followed by a Fellowship in Research Ageing from the National Endowments for Science, Technology and Arts, and the CRUCIBLE Fellowship. Prof Englyst was appointed as a Lecturer in Physiology in 2007, combining research and teaching activities. In 2015, she was appointed Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and became Programme Leader for the MSc in Diabetes Best Practice, focused on improving patient care in diabetes. By 2018, she took on the role of Postgraduate Director for Programmes, leading efforts to enhance the quality of master's programmes in the Faculty. In 2021, she became Director of Undergraduate Programmes and is set to become Deputy Head of the School (Education) in 2025. Prof Englyst is dedicated to e-learning, developing the Understanding Insulin MOOC, which has reached over 13,000 learners across more than 70 countries. Her research spans laboratory and translational work in coagulation and education research examining patient-centred language. As Chair of the Faculty of Medicine Mentoring Scheme, she fosters mentoring relationships for staff and early career researchers, enhancing educational experiences within the faculty.
