Biography

Nicole Biamonte studied music theory, piano, and choral conducting. Before coming to McGill, she taught at Yale University, Skidmore College, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of Iowa. She has presented papers at numerous regional, national, and international conferences, including keynote addresses for the Music Theory Society of New York State and the annual symposium on the Research in Music at Indiana University. Biamonte has led workshops and served as a chair in the music theory area of the SMT Popular Music Interest Group. She completed a three-year term as editor for Music Theory Online and is currently on the editorial board for Indiana Theory Review as an international advisory editor for the journal Popular Music. Her research interests involve theoretical analysis of popular music with a focus on rhythmic and metric functions in rock music, as well as form and harmony in popular music and music theory pedagogy. Her dissertation discusses the modes of music in the works of Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms within their historical contexts.
