Biography

Nicole Dingwall is a Departmental Lecturer in English Education and the Lead Tutor for PGCE English at Wolfson College, University of Oxford. Since joining the department in 2011, she has supervised students in the MSc Learning and Teaching and the MSc Medical Education doctoral programmes. With a background in secondary comprehensive education in both the UK and Australia, her expertise is rooted in teaching English across different countries and mentoring PGCE interns in partner schools. Her doctoral research investigates the interplay of interaction and identities within English departments and among English teachers in secondary schools. Nicole's research interests delve into the identities of English teachers and the English curriculum, specifically on the schooling of children within supportive educational environments. Currently, she is involved in a project comparing second/foreign language learning in secondary schools in England, Norway, and France. Nicole also encourages doctoral applications from students interested in research areas relating to curriculum and pedagogy in secondary English and Drama education within medical contexts, particularly in relation to her thesis titled 'Cultured Encultured?'.
