Dr. Nicole Nyffenegger

Biography

Nicole Nyffenegger is a lecturer in Medieval English Studies and Modern English Literature at the University of Bern. Her research focuses on the literature of human skin and the interdisciplinary network of Cultural Skin Studies, which she co-convenes. Nyffenegger has published numerous articles exploring themes such as representations of pain and violence in literature, performativity, gender identity, and human-animal studies. She teaches literature and culture of medieval and early modern England at both BA and MA levels, often emphasizing a comprehensive approach to various themes. Throughout her career, she has received numerous teaching awards and recognizes the importance of methodology and historical context in her subjects. Nyffenegger has also been involved in organized excursions connected to her teaching, enhancing students' understanding of the historical and cultural significance of literature.
