Biography

Nienke Endenburg is an Associate Professor and child health psychologist at Utrecht University, specializing in the human-animal relationship. She earned her PhD from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University in 1991, focusing on how animals influence child development. With a career spanning over two decades, she founded her psychology practice in 2000, where she works with children and incorporates Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI) into her methods. Nienke also has experience in grief counseling and has contributed to various organizations, including serving as a staff member at the Clinic for Veterinary Behavioural Medicine since 2007 and as a founding member of the Certipet foundation for pet behavior counselors in 2010. In addition, she is an active member of the Animal Welfare Wellness Committee of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and has served on the Veterinary Advisory Panel in Singapore since 2016.
