Ognian Hishow studied Business Administration Engineering at the Technische Universität Dresden, where he also obtained his doctorate. He served as a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 1984 to 1990. Between 1993 and 1995, he worked as an Analyst for the Federal Office for Foreign Asylum Seekers in Nuremberg. He has held positions as a Visiting Scholar at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk and at the Department of Economic Policy at Universität Passau. He contributed to the Center for European and Russian Studies at UCLA and has taught as a Visiting Professor at the Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester in New York from 2008 to 2012. His research interests focus on economic policy, with a particular emphasis on monetary and fiscal aspects, growth, innovation, and employment. Currently, he is working on European Union economic reforms, economic integration of new EU members, the consequences of EU membership enlargement, globalization, and the potential introduction of the Euro in new member-states.
