Biography

Omar Al-Ghazzi is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Education in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics (LSE). He focuses on the geopolitics of global communications, with a particular interest in how news media and popular culture shape political narratives and the use of communication technologies. His research draws on his expertise in Arabic media and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and his peer-reviewed work has been published in leading journals including Communication Theory, Journalism, and the International Journal of Communication. He is currently completing a book on the politics and history of Arab media, under contract with Oxford University Press. Al-Ghazzi has also been an editor for the Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication and has earned a PhD from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, along with MAs in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania and American University, and a BA in Communication Arts from the Lebanese American University. Before joining LSE, he was a Lecturer in Journalism at the University of Sheffield. His scholarly interests include Global Communication, Comparative Journalism, Digital Activism, and more, particularly as they relate to the Media and its impact on collective memory.
