Dr. Orly Linovski

Biography

Orly Linovski is an Associate Professor in the Department of City Planning at the University of Manitoba. His academic research and teaching efforts are motivated by a concern for the social and political production of built form. Linovski’s focus is on the links between professional practice and political processes that shape urban space. His research particularly addresses issues of social justice and equity relevant to professional planners, investigating how political, economic, and institutional structures influence planning practice and the realization of equity goals in transportation planning. He has published in prestigious journals such as the Urban Affairs Review and the Journal of Urban Affairs, and has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and MITACS. Linovski's background includes a PhD and M.Sc. in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Toronto respectively. He has experience in planning policy at both municipal and provincial levels, and is a Registered Professional Planner actively involved in the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute.
