Dr. Özlem Sensoy

Biography

Dr. Özlem Sensoy is a Professor at Simon Fraser University in the Faculty of Education, where she serves as the Director of the Cassidy Centre for Educational Justice. She also holds positions as Associate Faculty in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, and the Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies within the History Department. Her research focuses on social justice education, aiming to reveal social inequities that are embedded in the fabric of society and identify strategies for social change. Dr. Sensoy's work examines the opportunities and barriers to advancing a more equitable society and social justice through education. This research is conducted through a dual track approach: analyzing the inequities reproduced by social institutions, such as schools and the media, while identifying constructive interventions that can disrupt them. Her scholarship spans various fields, including social justice education, multicultural education, critical pedagogy, and feminist postcolonial theory, among others.
