Biography

Pamela Mason, Ed.D., is a senior lecturer and the faculty chair of the Literacy Languages Concentration at Harvard Graduate School of Education. She serves as the co-chair for the Teaching and Teacher Leadership program and directs the Jeanne Chall Reading Lab. Her research focuses on culturally sustaining pedagogy to enhance literacy achievement and the complexities surrounding text interaction and background knowledge. Mason is experienced in quantitative and qualitative literacy assessment and advocates for the critical roles that reading specialists and literacy coaches play in education. With extensive experience as a reading/language arts curriculum coordinator and principal in urban and suburban districts in the Boston area, she collaborates with colleagues to prepare reading specialists and develop the capability of school leaders as literacy advocates. Active in professional organizations, she serves on various committees and has held leadership roles in the International Literacy Association and the Massachusetts Association of College University Reading Educators, among others. She is also involved with local educational initiatives and foundations.
