Biography

Parizad Avari is a Consultant Diabetologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. She completed her PhD in 2021, focusing on evaluating smartphone-based real-time personalized decision support systems for individuals with type 1 diabetes. Her specialization lies in diabetes, particularly in using innovative technologies for individuals at high risk, those with impaired hypoglycaemia awareness, young adults, and patients in hospitals with renal impairment. She co-leads a Diabetes theme aimed at improving care for people undergoing dialysis before renal transplantation in North West London, a project funded by NHS England. Additionally, she is a member of the Joint British Diabetes Societies Inpatient Care (JBDS-IP) group committee, which has spearheaded the development of comprehensive UK guidance on using technology for inpatient diabetes care. Dr. Avari is also involved in a globally funded research unit focusing on digital interventions for the prevention of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in South Asia, and she has published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of diabetes and diabetes technology.
